Dr. Andrews earned his BA degree from the University of Texas in Austin. Like Dr. Holcomb, he then received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. Dr. Andrews served all five years of his post-medical school training at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio (UTHSCSA): one year internship in Internal Medicine, two year residency (Internal Medicine), and a two year fellowship in Pulmonary Disease. Upon completion of his training, he joined the faculty of the UTHSCSA in 1980, serving for two years as an assistant professor in Pulmonary Medicine and as Director of the Medical Intensive Care Units of University Hospital and the Audie Murphy V.A. Hospital.
Dr. Andrews is a fellow in the American College of Chest Physicians and the American College of Physicians. He is a member of the American Thoracic Society, American Academy of Asthma, Allergy and Immunology, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American College of Research Professionals and the Drug Information Association. He is a Certified Principal Investigator by the American College of Research Professionals. He continues to be a clinical assistant professor of medicine at UTHSCSA. His special interests include the treatment of allergic rhinitis, obstructive lung disease, pulmonary infections, and interstitial lung disease.
